Eliminator/XCE – done and over – power to the champions!

Boom, wow and everything. What an evening! Irynia Popova, Ukraine, took the gold medal in the Womens XCE and Swedish Emil Linde in the Mens. A large and loud crowd had gathered at Huskvarna Mountain, Sweden, and home town supported Martin Setterberg (SWE) added to Swedens successful night making third place in the mens. Giving the organizing country and town an even better night!

Qualification

The womens Elimination qualification indicated that Norway had found the speed when Ingrid Sofie Bøe Jacobsen (NOR) had the best time and Elisabeth Sveum (NOR) third. Anna Oberparleiter (ITA) placed 2nd and pre race medal contender Anne Terprsta (NED) placed fourth. But finals later turned the table.

In the mens qualifications round Sweden hade four of the top five best times! Only Daniel Federspiel put a hole in the four Swedes and had 3rd best time. Johan Widen, Swedens XCE-specialist had the best qualification time but later in the final heats had a stone jamed between crank and frame and he could not move on. Largest cheer of the evening was for local rider Martin Setterberg (SWE/Hallby SOK).

Finals 

After a really action packed heats, falls, bike break downs and more,  we ended up with a mens finals with; Martin Setterberg (SWE), Emil Linde (SWE), the World Champion Daniel Federspiel (AUT) and Patrick Lüthi (SUI). Lüthi actually studying in Göteborg, Sweden, at the moment…

Womens finals consisted of favorites Bøe Jacobsen (NOR), Anne Terpstra (NED), Irynia Popova (UKR) that really looked great all the way during the heats and Anna Oberparleiter (ITA).

Popova look well all the way through the final and took an impressive victory! Leaving Terpstra and Oberparleiter battling for second and Terpstra making the final stretch for silver.

In the Mens final Emil Linde powered by Federspiel at the very last meter! Setterberg coming in third lifted by his home town support at Huskvarnaberget! What an evening! And such a large crowd cheering and lifting the home riders to greatness. Who would have thought?
