Hard working talent

Swedish Ida Jansson pretty much had a outstanding first year as a Junior. In 2015 she won nationals, placed 3rd in the European Championships and 4th at the World Championships. On top of that she won her debut in the UCI Junior World Series later leaving her 3rd in the UCI World-ranking at the moment.

Of course this has not come out of nowhere. 2014 was also impressive, winning at the youth European Championships and also winning the Nationals for juniors, one year ahead of being a junior age wise. Ida Janssons skills and willingness to train, puts her in the top of cycling talent i Sweden. Right now Ida is focusing on mountainbike, but that didn´t stop her placing 5th at the Nationals in cyclo-cross (only senior class) as well as winning one gold and one silver at the road nationals… The schedule for next years racing is not fully set for Ida yet but the first UCI Junior World Cup is in April and we are looking forward to see her there. We had a chat with Ida in the middle of preseason.

What´s the feeling after the first part of your pre-season?

It´s a good feeling. I am motivated and inspired for next season but trying to stay in the ”moment”, enjoying every day and the training. But of course you are always looking forward to the next season to start.

And you also did some cyclo-cross. Did you get any offseason?

This year I did some cyclo-cross, but only the Nationals and the last Swe-cup. That´s mainly to be able to let go of the cycling in the fall and be a 100 % ready for winter training. Last year I did more cyclo-cross than this season and might do more next year. It´s fun but time will tell.

European Championships in Sweden, home court, next year. What´s your thoughts regarding that?

Incredible cool and inspiring. I know what kind of effort and commitment that is spent to make this a great event. That motivates me as well! But at the same time I dont´want to put to much focus into a single race. Before that I want to perform well in the World Cup series.(read more further down)

Into the sun Ida Jansson at the track for next years European Championships.

You have ridden several competitions a Huskvarnaberget and done some laps on the track for Euromtb. What´s your impression?

It is as tough as it gets. But I like that. I think the track, arena and the vision for championships is awesome!

How do you keep motivation up during the preseason and winter?

I am a competitative person all the way and love to train. I am studying at ”Hagströmska Idrottsgymnasiet” (note. High School where you could focus on your sport during studies) and train with other cyclist. That means that I could compete with them in every session, although they are not always aware I am doing that. But jokes aside I try to mix different training session to make it fun and love everything about it. I could not live without it.

Has cycling always been number one or have you done other sports as well?

Up until two years ago I did alpine skiing at the same level as cycling but I had to choose at that point. Also done cross country skiing since I was young and still do, it is good training. I am actually right now at Idre Skiing Resort at a camp with Falu IK for cross country skiing!

We say best of luck to Ida Jansson, with training and competing!
