Men Elite XCO – Will Absalon defend his title?

During Sunday the Men Elite XCO-cyclists will take on the course in Huskvarna, Sweden during Sundays main events at 2016 European Mountainbike Championships. Reigning, French Julien Absalon, one of all time best mountainbike cyclists is the man to beat. Be aware that many of these riders are looking to make a top-8 or 10 to meet their Nations Olympic criteria.

Join us at 15.00 for the Men Elite, but of course we go on all day, 11.30 Women Elite and 9.30 Men U23!

Besides the 5 time World Champion and two time Olympic Gold medalist Absalon we will see a pack chasing from behind. His team mate Maxime Marmotte (FRA) placed second in the World Cup start i Cairns and should be up in front. Ondřej Cink, Czech Republic, 3rd i World Championships 2015 could be in a rising form. Then we have the Suiss, with having most of the top 10 position in the first World Cup with for example Fabian Giger and Lukas Flückinger. Perhaps David Rosa (POR), Coloma (ESP) and Milatz Mortiz (GER) like the climbs as well.

Dutch wonderkid Mathieu van Der Poel will join (CycloCross World Champ 2014-15) in his quest for a spot to the Rio Olympics alongside country man Van Houts and Van der Heijden although van Der Poel have a start position further back in the field. Great Britain seems to be on a roll and Grant Ferguson looked sharp in the Relays and did well in Cairns.

Sweden puts their top rank Emil Lindgren, Matthias Wengelin and national Champion Calle Friberg amongst several others on the starting line. Road racer Gustav Larsson also joining the Swedish squad.

The climbs has seemed to be the key in winning and we´ll just have to see who has the stamina to make the seven (7) laps in a steady pace!
