Visit the small lands…

Visiting Huskvarna and Jönköping for the European Championships means that you are in the province of "small lands", Småland. Rich in history and sites to visit.

Huskvarna (or as spelled in the early days; Husqvarna), the scene of Euromtb, was up until 1970 a municipally of its own. Since Huskvarna and next door neighboring city of Jönköping grew as well, Huskvarna became part of Jönköping Municipally. So today Huskvarna is, basically, the eastern part of Jönköping.

Of course there will still be voices about what is the ”right side of the river” and what city grew into the other but it still now is the foundation for Smålands largest city, placed in the northern parts of Småland.

The province of Småland (”small lands” if you go for a direct translation) got it´s name based on that the region consisted of several independent lands (that is back in the age of Vikings and trolls).

The organization Visit Småland describes the province as consisting of: ”Deep and magical woods, thousands of glittering lakes, exciting highlands and an open coast to the sea. It is this very diversity, wide choice, ingenuity and genuineness that are the soul of our beautiful province. You will find favourite places and a part of Småland you will want to call your own.”

We of course picked our favorite spot for the Euromtb!

And Jönköping is a great platform to experience adventure and play in nature all around Småland as well as exploring the local spots for mountainbiking amongst other things. To find the best cycling and mountainbiking in Sweden and in the Jönköping area, visit Cycling Jönköping.
