What a success for Frei – Swiss victory in Womens U23 XCO

Sina Frei took no prisoners as the Swiss rocked the race ahead of Swedish Jenny Rissveds who put up a fierce fight and leaving the last place on the podium to Richards.

Chiara Teochi lead the riders like a string of beans out on the first lap but after the first decent down the ski slope Swedish Jenny Rissveds showed that she had ambitions for the race closely followed by Swiss Sina Frei. The duo sat comfortably in front of a pretty large group.

Out on the second lap Rissveds, with Frei close to her wheel had created a gap towards the rest of the riders. And among them Richards and Keller looked strong. Rissveds showed in the technical parts that Frei would have to fight for the gold leaving Richards alone to ride for third.

Frei gave power to her pedals before heading out on lap 4 and created a 30 second gap to Rissveds who also left Richards more than a minute behind. Despite a heroic fight from the Swedish rider there seemed to be nothing in the way for Frei to fly to victory.
